Meter This!

I want access to the billion dollar lane that gasoline tax bought. Right lane for merging and elderly folks. Middle lane for 65 to 70 MPH. Car-pool lanes are a fine example of stupidity being legitimized by corruption and poor management. What is the net gain to society by having these carefully guarded roads for carpoolers who don’t exist and prius drivers who, many of us, wish would just drive their little cars off a cliff.

For what they spent on ruining the downtown exit and 12/101 interchange, they should have been able to give us 3 lanes per side from Novato to Windsor. This would have cut down traffic and translated to more free time for working commuters. If you spend 2 hours a day in the car for free just to get 20 miles down the road, fu** you. Either buy a smug car that sucks or take the bus.

Gas taxes are mandatory. Use of the roads that you buy and build, strictly privilege and subject to truly dumb standards.

If we’re in the mood to fix stuff, speed limits are desperate for logical and scientific adjustment. Cars these days are much safer and more powerful than ever. Speeding tickets are worded to imply that exceeding the posted speed limit, in and of itself, is proof of unsafe and reckless driving. You can drive reckless at 80, or 40, or whatever, it’s not proof of anything.

Flat straight roads in a modern automobile can be driven safely at high speed. Reckless driving is endangering the safety of all those around you. Speeding in a parking lot or kid filled street surely is reckless. Taking a brand new beamer to 85 on the way to Cloverdale is completely sane and safe. $400 tickets are reckless and bad for everyone. Points on insurance are bad for everyone. Driving fast is fun and harmless on the open freeway. It’s high time we adjust the speed LIMIT to a real and obvious limit. 100 MPH, 120 MPH, or 150 MPH, Would raise the overall respect for the law and consent to the penalties for breaking it, considerably. Almost no one would cry foul for being sited at 120. Most people consider a ticket at 70 over 65 to be absolutely unjust and suspect alternative motives for its enforcement. Equating police with highwaymen and scoundrels.

The only drawback, if it’s a drawback at all, is the massive decrease in ticket revenues that would result. Setting a proper limit at the level it should be would end the ticket racket enjoyed by CHP, SRPD, etc. Which is why these conflicted interests will never support this and will lobby to the extreme for the status quo to be maintained. The one way to change it is to ignore it. Cops are supposed to survey roads to test the public’s obedience with said limits. If the number of cars that exceeds the limit reaches a certain percentage the limits are to be revised upward to better reflect the judgement of the people driving.

The original speed law defined the “crime” of speeding in this way.
Satisfaction of two criteria needed to be met before prosecution and penalty could be attempted. First, driver was traveling at a higher rate of speed than the posted limit. Second, driver caused an accident due to his reckless speed.

This is speeding and should continue to define criminal negligence on the roads. Without damaging another with clearly negligent (not honest accident) behavior the imposing of fines that amount to full weeks in pay for people is criminal. Not to mention the insurance, license suspensions, and countless hours spent in court for exceeding a completely arbitrary and meaningless limit on speed.

To hasten the demise of our stupid system I would also suggest that all people who receive a ticket choose to resolve the matter by going to court. You should be spiteful towards those who wish to steal from you. Force them to court as many times as possible. Use your subpoena power to call as witness as many people as possible. Force them to spend $100,000 to collect $400. Question the radar or breathalyser software. Log evidence of the inspection schedules, tests for accuracy, and anything that has ever caused an anomaly in reading. Use your right to due process and force them to waste any so-called profit that they were expecting. If only half of those ticketed would do this, the courts would be swamped and completely bankrupted for continuing. Tickets matter not, they are a summons for court. The courts decide what the facts are and how you should be punished. Make sure they remember you by making yours the hardest property they ever stole. Maybe they will avoid dealing with you next time. Maybe you’ll prove them wrong at their own rigged game.

Traffic tribunals are actually no game at all. These are kangaroo courts set up to deprive the people of their right to a jury trial. Any fine imposed by a magistrate exceeding $20 in total is illegal and cause for a lawsuit against the magistrate for violation of constitutional and civil rights.

In Defense Of Capitalism

There is no denying that capitalism is and has been under attack in this country for the last century. Our current representatives in DC are just the latest insurgents in a hard fought political war. In as far as I’m concerned, if their main goal is to crush freedom, they needn’t fight any more. You would have to be naïve or dishonest to mistake our current system for a free marketplace. I think it’s time for the other side to quit being so modest. Capitalism has been defeated and replaced with a system that is increasingly controlled by a centralized, all knowing political elite.

So what, right? I mean, doesn’t capitalism promote human suffering and greed? If not for the courageous, statist, so-called “liberals” our son’s would be enslaved to work the mines while our daughters would be prostituted to the highest bidder. I am told that freedom is slavery and that to think is stupid. They (politicians) have saved us from ourselves. They have sold millions of people the line that it is better to be owned by them indefinitely then choose to work for someone on terms negotiated and freely agreed upon by myself and another man. They have made the case for 100+ years that without them and their monopoly on violence I am nothing. It is better to except a welfare check from my benevolent master than work for less than what they say I’m worth.

So if capitalism is so evil, how did it become the American system. Were we duped by “robber barons” into buying magic beans? No. The truth is, we invented capitalism. Our Founding Fathers were concerned with private property rights above all else. Under a system of British Mercantilism, which was ironically, remarkably similar to the modern US model, Colonial wealth was continually being taxed away so that English men could eat and the King could expand his empire. After many decades of abuse our courageous Founders had to read the writing on the wall. The government protection they received for their obedience eventually took on the feel of British military men guarding property, instead of kin. They had to face the truth. As long as they were Englishmen they would be treated as slaves. That they were nothing to their fellow countrymen but exploitable flesh.

So here’s the scoop. Capitalism chose the US. It is the only system mankind has come up with that is based on individual sovereignty. Capitalism combined with a political system rooted in just laws is the only way that government and freedom

can even co-exist. Once democracy allows for the voting away of fundamental, individual, rights you see government become bastardized and corrupted. It’s not that I think we should have no government, I just think when man uses the state to violate his fellow man a horrible cycle begins. The 20th Century was pretty bad for examples of state control gone terribly wrong. The estimates I’ve read put the death toll of non-combatant civilians in 100 years time at 100 Million souls. These were not soldiers, but farmers and factory workers worked to death to fuel the states of Russia, China, and various others.

In the end I am going to urge you to look at the facts. The information age is an exciting time to be alive. Ignorance in my opinion is becoming truly voluntary and inexcusable for those that think they’re in the know. People are greedy, ambitious, and dishonest. Some men and women behave in a manner that is evil in their pursuits for wealth. That being said, capitalism and the free exchange of goods, services, and ideas has never produced genocide. The simple gift of dignity and the acknowledgement that no man has authority over any other has provided to Americans the highest standard of living in the history of our species. We live almost twice as long as the pilgrims who founded this land. We capitalist slave drivers do more to feed the worlds hungry than any other people, ever.

Africa is the richest continent on the planet in diamonds, gold, and silver. So why is it the people are so desperate? They have governments and hold elections why are they not expanding the human existence into the cosmos with some great “green” technology? The answer is simple. All the wealth in the world means nothing without dignity. Americans of all people should damn well remember what slavery does to a nation. Once government becomes dependent upon the trading of human flesh, nothing save for annihilation of the state can liberate the commodity that is human property. If you disagree I suggest you read a book on the civil war here, as well as the civil wars in Africa and everywhere else.

Patrick Henry addressed the Virginia House of Burgess with a famous and moving ultimatum. He knew not what course other men would take, but for him it was a matter of liberty or death. What did he know then, that many of the spoiled masses of today have forgot, or dishonestly have failed to mention. A man stripped of liberty and forced to live for the benefit of someone he doesn’t

even know or a cause he considers unjust is no longer a man at all. Just property like cattle or a mule.

As unfortunate as it is I will say, that if this is what you fear when you question the capabilities of some, for the willingness to commit evil. If you get it, that absolute power corrupts absolutely. Then please understand that in civilized society we grant our government exclusive rights on violent force. We do this in good faith, because until recently people understood that governments only legitimate purpose was the protection of rights. The right to be secure in my possessions. The right to express myself freely and without censorship. The right to, if necessary, defend my life and the property I have produced, at all costs.

You see, it ought not be capitalism you are afraid of. Egypt, Rome, England, all nations in Northern Africa, Russia, China, Iran, and on and on. Self-serving statism has spilled enough innocent blood to cover the earth. Oppressive kings, emperors, and pharaohs, and the states that have been their enforcers have stunted our natural growth as rational humans. 40,000 years or so of slavery is enough. When you question the benefit to society that capitalism brings to the table ponder this. Julius Ceaser entered Rome for his inauguration on horseback. Almost 2,000 years later the first president of a new Republic used the same technology. Less than 240 years later I watched Barrack Obama‘s arrival at the head of state in a military helicopter. You see, while private greed was making sure every American had a car and a house, our government was doing Korea, Vietnam, the entire Middle East, South America, and the list goes on.

So, who you gonna trust?

Just One Arguement For Ending The Drug War

In my opinion the burden of proof should lay squarely on the prohibitionists to show how this “war” on Americans has enhanced our lives. Problem is, there is no proof to suggest that any aspect of American life has improved as a result of the expensive and violent “war on drugs”. In fact there is ample proof to suggest otherwise.

Around 1914 the US got fed up with drugs. Somewhere in the ball park of 3% of the population was addicted to drugs and the politicians thought something had to be done. So our great leaders decided to start dabbling in legislative morality. Today we see this hands on approach to running our lives in just about everything from “sin” taxes, to rebates for “green” living, to helmet laws, etc. The right one has to freely and peacefully express one’s self has largely evaporated. It is no longer possible to escape the over reaching coercive policies of government.

By what right can you tell someone that you will have them imprisoned for putting something in their own body? By natural law the individual is sovereign. By natural right my body is my own and I am free to destroy it or enhance it as I see fit. To suggest otherwise is to attempt to enslave me. Slavery does not exist only in public school books about the South. Dependency upon government to make all my decisions for me is slavery. Surely you couldn’t call this freedom. Freedom is turbulent and exciting. For every action taken in our lives we see a reaction. The richness of our lives grows with every reaction whether it be bad or good. Our decisions in life mold and shape who we become. Our failures are learned through negative reaction and are passed on to those we intend on raising. This progression is called life.

No matter what we do as a society we can’t legislate morality. I mentioned before that when drugs first started to become illegal 3% of the population was addicted. Today after nearly 100 years worth of prison building, swat teams, erosion of rights, etc. I am glad to tell you that we now have a population that contains 3% addicts. That’s right HUNDREDS OF BILLIONS OF DOLLARS SPENT AND ZERO RESULTS! Well that’s not really fair. Zero would be sugar coating it. The human cost of this drug war is appalling.

Have you ever looked at a gold fish in a bowl and thought about the miserable existence it suffers? Paint the bowl black and add a hand full of predator fish to the party and you have a prison. Do you think you are saving people from ruining their lives by putting them in prison? Is housing, medical, food, and clothing for drug addicts a good way to spend tax dollars? I suggest it is not. Prisons are essential to any civilized society. That being said, I think it is beneficial for society at large to reserve this expensive punishment for those who violate the rights of others. Why are pot heads doing time with rapists? Do these two crimes seem similar to you? If so, you are crazy.

In closing I will just say that I encourage you to look at the statistics in regards to the drug war. I really wanted to touch on the moral implications of our nations drug policy so I left a lot of the nuts and bolts out. Truth is though, we are spending billions of dollars not just in this country but abroad as well. To what end? How long do we continue along with the status quo? There is a better way and it’s not new, just forgotten. You are the best governor of your life. Your moral code is all that’s necessary to get you through the decisions in your day to day dealings. Don’t worry about your neighbor, they will have to live by their own standard. Only when someone infringes upon your rights has a crime occurred.

What Civil Liberties Mean To Me

Civil liberties can be defined as an adherence to natural law. Most of my fellow Americans have a very poor understanding of the words liberty and freedom. People of our time worry little about the fundamental roots of our humanity and the quest for truth. “I got rights” has become a punchline capable of meaning anything one wishes it to mean. Right to healthcare. Right to a good job. Right to an education. Right to welfare. Right to retirement. But wait, these rights aren’t natural. These are all services provided by other humans. To suggest that they are mine by natural right also must suggest that I have a natural claim on those who produce these things. That is a clear violation of natural law which mandates that man is free.

So for those who stumbled upon this by accident trying to find American Idol, I will name some rights which do exist naturally. Rights need not ever be legislated by your fellow man. They exist forever and can not be justly separated from you. All that free people require from one another to exist in our natural state of liberty is respect. Not respect for one another, I can think of you what I wish. Respect for the natural system of law which governs our interaction with one another. By virtue of my humanity and my ability to reason, nature affords me the right to think. By consequence of thought I have the right to express these thoughts by way of speech. I have the right to convert thought, labor, and time into property. I have a natural obligation to protect my property and my life. I have the right to be private in my affairs. I have the right to travel and move freely. I have the right to live my life by my own moral code. To deny me of any of my natural rights is to violate justice. Existence without justice is slavery and contrary to man’s natural state.

So it should seem pretty clear. The human race is, and always has been governed by nature. Nature’s laws are so much a part of our life that we often learn them much before learning anything else. One of the first lessons that humans absorb teaches us property rights. We quickly are made to realize that forcefully taking from another is wrong. We are schooled almost immediately in trade. Through property rights toddlers learn that a trade is a trade. That once you surrender ownership to someone else you are bound and stuck with the trade. So why do adults find themselves so often at odds with nature? The answer is simple. The State. Our unnatural and aggressive system is riddled with man made laws that directly contradict nature’s laws. We are told that theft is wrong, unless the State is holding the gun. We are told kidnapping is a felony, unless they call it conscription. We are told that trespassing is a crime, but made to accept eminent domain. What if Einstein were given two sets of laws with regards to physics? One supplied by natural law and the other drafted by a party which has much to gain from the rewriting and violating of the law? He might have gotten so confused with trying to reconcile the logical with the illogical that he just wanted to watch dancing with the stars and have a beer.
